The church, located on the top of one side of the hill, is mentioned for the first time in 984, as a tributary of tithes to the nearby parish church of Elici. In 1260 it was mentioned again in the list of churches in Lucca.
In 1687 it was erected as a parish and rebuilt. A new, radical restructuring took place in the 19th century. In the early years of the 20th century it was decorated with Art Nouveau frescoes.
